Discussion at the Tioga City Commission meeting Monday last week centered around a request by the Western Area Water Supply Authority for the city to relinquish payments for water sales that have accrued from Jan. 1, 2016, through the end of 2018.
Monies due to sub-members, such as the City of Tioga, will instead go to pay down the principal amount owed on WAWSA loans through the State of North Dakota.
“If they took any of that money, which there was, and they paid us, it would probably look bad to the legislature that we are paying ourselves before paying it down,” explained Commissioner Tim Sundhagen.
“It only makes sense to pay down that debt,” he added. “The loans are huge.”
