Drama surrounding the Wildrose City Election June 12 has illuminated a peculiarity in state law.
While municipalities like Wildrose, Ray and Tioga use the Tioga Tribune to publish their minutes and other public notices, notices of city elections may not appear there.
They’re not required to, but at least one city auditor feels it’s in the public interest to post the notices in the city’s official newspaper, even though the county publishes a consolidated election notice for all, in the Williston Herald.
Even with that publication in Williston, “I’m not going to assume I’m covered,” Ronda Rustad said.
