Industry “tapped the brakes” in June, according to Lynn Helms, director of the state Department of Mineral Resources.
Oil and gas producers voluntarily slowed production, Helms explains, bringing the number of barrels of oil and cubic feet of natural gas down from their record-setting numbers in May.
Bakken-wide, oil production fell roughly 2 percent, or about 21,000 barrels per day, while gas production dropped by 1 percent -- at just over 2.3 million cubic feet per day.
Locally, June totals for oil production were down by 4,000 barrels in Burke County, 43,000 barrels in Divide County and more than 260,000 barrels in Williams County.
