Noonan’s Mexican restaurant, Uno Mas, will close next week.
“Hopefully we’ll be back,” said Marsha Leguizamon, but for now “we’re out of options.”
Leguizamon’s husband, Federico and a partner opened the restaurant in August 2010, and also renovated the former nursing home into a hotel and added extended stay units, the Crashpad Bunkhouse. The hotel and bunkhouse will remain open, said Leguizamon, under the management of Darla Hansen.
But the loss of a full time cook and a lack of traffic to justify recruiting a new one are too difficult to overcome right now.
The Leguizamons moved to Orlando, Fla., last August, but would like to return one day.
“We’re hoping to keep our connection to the community so when business comes back we can come back,” she said.
“I feel like I’m losing a family member,” she added, and though traffic is down, the restaurant retained a strong following from locals.
The county’s only other Mexican food place, La Mexicana, is open Monday through Friday in Crosby, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
