Kids who came with their U.S. Air Force dads to the Fortuna Radar Station remember plenty of tears upon arrival at the remote Cold War listening post.
But Michelle Pulvermacher wouldn’t have missed the chance to attend the dedication Friday of new signs commissioned by the county, commemorating the base’s role in history.
“This was huge for me to come up today,” said Pulvermacher, whose late father, Gary Jardee, was stationed at the base from 1976-78.
When the rest of the family left for a new post, Michelle stayed behind to marry her husband of 40 years, Gene.
