Two different cases of motorists stranded illustrate the importance of staying with your vehicle if you become stranded in a blizzard, said Divide County Sheriff Lauren Throntveit.

“Leaving the vehicle is super dumb,” said Throntveit, but that’s exactly what one motorist did after becoming stuck on Co. Road 17.

At 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Throntveit had just called off a search party after learning the man walked to a farmstead. A few minutes later, he learned of the safe rescue of a woman who had spent the night in her pickup.

As daylight arrived, no travel remained advised in Divide County, schools were closed and  St. Luke’s Hospital was diverting emergency room traffic to a different entrance due to blowing and drifting snow. Crosby’s City Council meeting was postponed until Dec. 12, due to the dangerous conditions in town.
