Volleyball teams fall short at NWC tourney

The Ray volleyball team fell 25-22, 25-17 to Des Lacs-Burlington in the Northwest Conference tournament championship match Saturday in Glenburn.
The Jays defeated Powers Lake 25-21, 25-17 in the quarterfinal and Stanley 24-26, 25-13, 15-11 in the semifinal. They were 3-1 in pool play with one loss to Kenmare.
Tioga lost 18-25, 25-13 to Trenton and were swept in its other three pool-play matches.
Pirates fall on home floor
Tioga’s first home match on its finally complete gym floor was a nailbiter, as the Pirates fell 15-13 in the fifth set Monday last week against Glenburn.
The Pirates were also 3-0 losers at home Thursday to Divide County, 25-18, 25-19, 25-5. Two days earlier, they fell 25-4, 25-17, 25-17 to Trenton.
Tioga plays at Powers Lake on Thursday and hosts Trenton on Monday and Ray on Tuesday.
Ray sweeps Divide County
Marissa Veach’s 10 kills helped give Ray a road sweep -- 25-14, 25-11, 25-16 -- at Divide County on Oct. 6.
Allison Ziebarth finished with her sixth double-double of the season: 10 digs and 17 assists.
Kelsey Perdue also finished with a double-double, her first on the season, with 11 assists and 16 digs to go with two kills and two service aces.
Ray plays at Kenmare on Thursday, at Our Redeemer’s on Monday and at Tioga on Tuesday.
