Tioga races past New Town; Trenton victorious over Ray

Devon Wilharm ran for three first-half touchdowns and returned a punt in the first quarter for another Friday and Tioga smothered struggling New Town, 44-0.
Wilharm ran for touchdowns of 94, 40 and 3 yards. His punt return touchdown was 56 yards.
Carsen Canfield added a 36-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Jacob Porras returned the opening kickoff for a 73-yard touchdown for Tioga (2-2, 2-1 Region 6).
The Pirates gained 323 total yards on 36 plays. New Town gained 35 yards.
The Eagles went into the game ranked last in Region 6 in scoring offense (12.0) and scoring defense (67.5).
Tioga returns to action Friday when the Pirates make the short trek to Ray for the Jays’ homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Jays fall to Trenton
Senior Atati Mita returned a punt for a touchdown for the second time this season, but Ray fell to Trenton-Trinity Christian, 62-43, for its second loss of the season Friday evening in Ray.
“We knew going into the game we did not want to get in a track meet with them, as they have better team speed than we do,” Ray coach Steve Perdue said. “We hope to bounce back this week and continue to move forward as a football team.”
Junior Waylen Hale had three touchdowns to help give the Jays (2-2, 2-1 Region 6) a 35-28 lead over Trenton (1-3, 1-2 Region 6) in the third quarter.
TD passes of 27 and 28 yards from Austin Smith to JJ Bressler put the Tigers ahead at 40-35 later in the quarter.
Ray responded with a big play of its own in Mita’s punt return to go back in front 43-40.
Trenton outscored the Jays 22-0 the rest of the way to earn the victory.
Garrett Hodenfield finished the game completing three touchdowns, one each to Mita and Waylen and Derek Hale.
