The Tioga boys’ golf team won the region title on Friday in Crosby, overcoming Stanley by seven strokes, and will advance to next week’s state meet.
Tioga finished with a score of 324, and three Pirates placed among the top 10 individually, led by junior Mitchell Fifer, who shot a 76 to take medalist honors.
“The boys played extremely well,” Tioga head coach Ryan Albrecht said. “I was very proud of the way they all played today and am happy to see their hard work pay off. They now have a lot of new opponents coming up that are extemely talented but are looking forward to the challenge.”
Sophomore Carter Valliere finished in second place, two strokes in back of Fifer at 78. Sophomore Brandon Skabo finished fifth with a total score of 81, and sophomore Tyler Larson shot an 89. Junior Parker Jackson and eighth-grader Kaden Pederson respectively scored 104 and 112.
Also advancing to the state championship out of the region will be Stanley (331) and Divide County (355). Ray finished with a score of 469.
Individually, Parshall’s Jelani Foote and Deyondre Simpson and Des Lacs-Burlington’s Riley Keller also will advance to the state meet, held Tuesday and Wednesday next week at Jamestown Country Club.
Seventh-grader Asha Valliere led the Pirate girls with a tally of 109 at their region meet in Burlington.
“The girls continued to improve throughout the year,” Albrecht said. “I am proud of the effort that they put forth this year. If they work hard and practice over the summer, I believe that we might be able to get ourselves a couple of state qualifiers next year.”
