Tioga girls fall

By Jody Michael
Divide County outscored the visiting Tioga girls’ basketball team 17-4 in the first quarter on the way to a 54-26 victory over the Pirates on Friday in Crosby.
The setback marked the third consecutive loss for Tioga.
“We had a lot of problems on our defensive end,” Tioga head coach Trent Roemmich said. “We weren’t really moving, shuffling our feet that well, and we didn’t box out on every possession, so when you give up offensive rebounds, you give them two, three times to score.”
Tayla Dean scored a team-best nine points.
“They’re starting to look for things offensively,” Roemmich said. “Opportunities to drive, opportunities to look for high-low passing and swinging the ball around.”
Tioga scored nine of the final 12 points in the opening half to narrow a 27-4 deficit into a 17-point, 30-13 disadvantage, but DC blew the game wide open with an 18-5 run to start the second half that gave the hosts a 30-point lead, their largest of the game with 6:20 left.
Pirates fall to Parshall
Tioga dropped a 59-23 decision to Parshall on Thursday.
Dean finished in double figures, leading Tioga with 11 points. Payton Skabo contributed six points in the effort.
The Pirates continued District 16 play on Monday at Kenmare.
Tioga will conclude its regular season with games at home vs. Ray on Friday at 7:15 p.m., at Our Redeemer’s Christian School in Minot vs. Westhope-Newburg on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. and at Lignite vs. Burke County on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
