Tioga boys ride big 2nd quarter past Ray, 76-62

By Jody Michael
Patrick Frise led all Pirates with 23 points, including 12 in the first quarter and his 1,000th for his career, in Tioga’s 76-62 victory over Ray on Feb. 9.
Cole Marmon had 22 points and a game-high four 3-pointers.
Tioga led 36-28 at halftime after a 17-9 difference in the second quarter. The Pirates (8-9, 6-6 District 16) outrebounded the Jays 39-30.
Atati Mita led Ray (5-11, 3-8) with 29 points. Mita had 11 points in the first quarter and 12 in the fourth.
Bunker Hill had 11 points, and Dawson Cvancara had nine points.
The loss was a second consecutive for Ray after consecutive wins the previous week against North Shore and Burke County. (A Feb. 10 story stated an incorrect score from the Jays’ Feb. 5 game; Ray defeated Burke County, 55-52.)
Ray hosted Divide County on Tuesday and greets Trenton on Thursday and Berthold on Friday, both at 7:15 p.m.
Pirates stumble at Parshall
Tioga struggled to slow down the Parshall offense on Feb. 8, ultimately falling to the Braves 74-50.
Frise led the Pirates with 18 points. Parker Jackson added 14, while Jacob Porras scored eight.
Deyondre Simpson led the Braves offensively, with 32. Billy Johnson chipped in 16.
The Braves led 21-8 at the end of the first and went into the break up 21, 45-24.
Tioga hosted North Shore on Tuesday and visits Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood on Thursday in Sherwood.
