The Tioga boys’ golf team finished second overall with a 320, one stroke more than champion Stanley, at the Northwest Conference Meet on May 10 in Crosby.
Junior Mitchell Fifer had the best round of all competitors with a 72, as the Pirates and Blue Jays placed three each in the top six.
“The boys played well while dealing with some rainy and sometimes sloppy conditions up in Crosby,” Tioga head coach Ryan Albrecht said. “Stanley played some great golf that day and came out on top. The boys realize that they need to play great golf on all 18 to win.”
Sophomore Brandon Skabo finished fourth with a 77, and sophomore Carter Valliere finished fifth with an 80.
Sophomore Tyler Larson put together a 91, junior Parker Jackson finished in 94 and eighth-grader Kaden Pederson scored a 107.
Seventh-grader Asha Valliere led the girls with a 102 at their NWC meet in Burlington, followed by sophomore Grace Ramberg at 110, sophomore Dantae Knudson at 111 and junior Juli Christofferson at 157.
“The girls are continuing to improve,” Albrecht said. “The course at DLB sets up really well for them. Scores were better than expected due to the poor weather conditions that day.”
The Pirates will return to Crosby and Burlington on Friday for the region meets.
“They now know what the course is like heading into regionals being held there,” Albrecht said.
