Junior Atati Mita finished third in the discus and fourth in the javelin at the 2015 NDHSAA Class B Track and Field State Meet this past weekend at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
Mita’s best tosses landed at 145-5 for the discus and 167 for the javelin, both of which are season-bests, and he finished first among the seven in his flight in both events, and respectively third and fourth overall.
He scored for the Firestorm to give Williams County a total of 11 points at the meet. That placed the Williams County men in a tie for 20th among the 46 teams that scored points at the meet.
Mita entered the state meet as the 10th-best discus thrower and 15th-best javelin thrower among Class B boys this season, but his season-best distances in both events surpassed several of the boys that were ahead of him.
Elijah Grady of New Town was first in the discus, while New Salem-Almont’s Spencer Rebel won in the javelin throw.
On Friday, Mita, sophomore Logan Aadnes and juniors Tyler Larson and Patrick Frise finished 14th in the boys’ 4x800-meter relay. Their relay finished in 9 minutes, 8.34 seconds.
