Mita claims discus titles in Watford, Minot

Atati Mita claimed Williams County’s lone first-place finishes in two competitive track and field meets last week, the Northwest Conference championships Thursday in Watford City and the Glenburn Invitational on Saturday in Minot.
The Firestorm fared particularly well Thursday, finishing the girls’ meet with 50 points to tie for sixth out of 13 teams, while the boys captured eighth out of 18 with 29 points.
Mita’s best discus throw was Saturday, at 148-6.5. He also took third in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 44.58 seconds, and on Thursday he reached 153 feet in the javelin for the first time in finishing second.
Abby Larson turned in a personal-best time of 1 minute, 6.82 seconds in the girls’ 400-meter dash Thursday to take home second place, while Destiny Laveau finished sixth in that event Saturday with a personal-best 1:09.20. Jordan Rodin’s 10th-place time of 1:09.92 was also a personal best.
Laveau also placed fifth in the 800 and seventh in the 300 hurdles Thursday and eighth in the 200 and sixth in the 300 hurdles Saturday. Emily Manire was right behind her in seventh in the 300 on Saturday with her best time of the season.
Taking third and fifth, respsctively, in the girls’ 100 and 200 on Thursday was Ilise Jennings, with personal-best times of 13.31 and 27.88.
Tyler Larson’s 800-meter time of 2:17.77 on Thursday was his best of the season and good for eighth place. Patrick Frise and Konner Knudson had season-best times in the mile in placing 10th and 28th.
The girls also posted their best 4x100 and 4x200 relay times of the year Thursday.
Next on the schedule for the Firestorm is the region meet in Minot on Friday.
