Williams County senior Jaryn Rasmussen turned in a fourth-place finish at the state wrestling championships, closing out his three-day tournament run in a 2-1 loss to Watford City’s Jake Belland on Saturday inside the Fargodome.
Rasmussen (220 pounds) finished 4-2 for the tournament. After losing his first match 15-8 to Pembina County North’s Michael Lafferty, he defeated Linton’s Andrew Vetter in 1:45, South Border’s Riley Molter in 4:31, Lisbon’s Spencer Schwab in 2:20 and Carrington’s Jacob Copenhaver by a 3-1 decision to reach the third-place bout.
The Firestorm finished 23rd in the team standings.
Carsen Canfield (170 pounds) finished 3-3 and took sixth place. He defeated South Border’s Martin DeArcos 11-4 but fell in 1:31 to Killdeer’s Derek Tabor in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation bracket, Canfield recovered to defeat New Salem-Almont’s Colby McGrath in 1:34 and Lisbon’s Gannon Johnson 9-6 before consecutive losses to Pembina County North’s Carter Brown in 3:37 and Ellendale’s Clayton Grueneich in 2:19.
Cameron Taylor (113 pounds) dropped both of his matches, to Pembina County North’s Tanner Urlaub in 1:51 and Kindred’s Easton Ogren 11-3, as did Ethan Wonser (106 pounds), in 55 seconds to Linton’s Chandler Nagel and 9-6 to LaMoure’s Brett Wendel.
