Tioga to replace some highway signs based on requirements of the state

The City of Tioga will be changing at least one of its welcome signs in the coming months after a letter from the state Department of Transportation deemed it in violation of the 1965 Highway Beautification Act.

“We all need to have an attic cleaning once and while,” said building inspector Dan Larson.

Of primary concern is the westward-facing welcome sign at the corner of U.S. 2 and 105th Avenue, which is faded and in disrepair.

City Auditor Abby Salinas said the city was notified by letter from the DOT that it had six months to remove or replace the sign or risk being fined.
