The Tioga post office is officially moving to the location of Hegstad Furniture, at least according to a letter to Mayor Drake McClelland from the U.S. Postal Service.
But according to the business’s owner it’s not as sure as the postal service makes it seem.
“Nothing is certain yet. We haven’t discussed anything,” said Gene Hegstad.
The post office began publically announcing intentions to move last December and held a public hearing by the mailboxes of the current location in January.
At the time, Hegstad was one of a few locations the postal service considered. They also looked at the old location of the defunct Bucking Buffalo, Papineau insurance, and the commercial spaces at Tioga Square.
According to the letter, Hegstad was identified as the best option.
“We believe this new location will provide the community with an upgraded, modern facility that offers the level of service expected by our customers,” Greg Shelton, real estate specialist with the USPS, wrote.
The letter provides no information as to when the move will happen or what will happen if terms cannot be negotiated with the building’s current owner.
As of press time, Shelton did not return calls seeking comment.
