County and city officials from across Williams County met Thursday with state lawmakers in Williston to urge them to keep the current Hub city funding policies.
“Where the big disconnect comes is that the east side of the state looks at this side and asks why shouldn’t they be getting the money when they have the higher population,” said Ray City Auditor Ronda Rustad.
“They haven’t felt or seen the impact of what it is like out here,” she said.
Under the Hub city initiative, beginning in 2013, cities in northwest North Dakota received higher allocations of oil and gas production tax money to help maintain infrastructure and support local services as the population grew during the oil boom.
