Volleyball’s NWC bid ends in quarterfinal

The Divide County volleyball team advanced to the quarterfinals of Saturday’s Northwest Conference tournament in Glenburn before bowing out in a 25-21, 25-19 loss to eventual champion Des Lacs-Burlington.
“They really fought hard in this last game,” coach Lisa Ford said. “I was really proud of how well they did.”
In pool play, DC beat New Town (25-21, 25-23) and Tioga (25-16, 25-11) and fell to Trenton (25-19, 25-12) and Berthold (17-25, 25-14).
DC sweeps Tioga
Divide County picked up a win Thursday evening with a three-set road sweep of Tioga (25-18, 25-19, 25-5).
Senior Kasha Bakewell led the charge with a team-best eight kills and three blocks, senior Emilee Johnson produced six kills and two blocks, senior Sierra Grote provided a team-high 12 assists and sophomore McKenzie Hallgren led all Maroons with 13 digs.
Alli McCoy delivered five kills in the victory, and Makenzie Olson recorded 11 digs.
Maroons suffer defeat
Divide County fell 3-0 to the Ray Jays at home Oct. 6.
McCoy led DC attackers with four kills. Grote directed the attack, collecting six assists during the match. Hallgren led the defense with 23 digs.
DC played at New Town this Tuesday and plays at Stanley on Thursday and vs. Trinity Christian on Tuesday next week.
