Crosby’s Squirt hockey team (22-1-1) won Saskatchewan’s Southeast Minor Hockey League title for the second consecutive season with a 5-0 victory against the Weyburn Blues (18-6-0) in Game 2 of the final round Wednesday last week.
Christopher Johnson, Drysten Bailey, Ole Svangstu and Kyle Knudson scored for Crosby.
Johnson scored with 19:00 remaining in the second period to give the Comets the lead. The next three goals all came within the first four minutes of the third period, and Johnson scored again to make it 5-0 at 5:09.
Crosby had defeated Weyburn 4-3 in Game 1 on March 17 in Crosby. The Comets had swept the Estevan Avengers and Weyburn Red team to advance to the final playoff round.
Other Squirts team members are Aaliyah Bailey, Robert Bell, Thayne Coston, Jackson DeJardine, Gavyn Dimmick, Easton Eriksmoen, Payton Hanisch, Bethany Kocher, Brandt Lacombe, Julian Monson, Jaren Nygard and Rhylan Olson. Mitch Svangstu, Mark Knudson and Kurt Kocher coached the team.
