Divide County’s Alli McCoy ran her best 200-meter dash of the season with a time of 27.92 seconds en route to a first-place finish at the Charlie Hanneman Memorial Invitational in Rugby on May 3, inching closer to another trip to the state meet.
McCoy also finished third in the 100, in 13.21, and in the 4x100-meter relay with McKenzie Hallgren, Lauryn Heide and Emilee Johnson, in 55.63, their best time in that event this year, though still a second behind last year’s best effort.
Dejuan Jenkins had a third-place finish of his own in the boys’ long jump, a season-best 20-2.5, but points were difficult to come by in one of the larger meets of the year.
“We made the long trip to Rugby on Tuesday and faced the tough competition we expected to see,” coach Nate Nelson said. “There were over 20 teams at the meet, and it consisted of a lot of schools we don’t face very often.”
Kate Sabe secured two victories for the Maroons on Thursday in Tioga, taking the girls’ shot put with a 26-foot mark and the discus throw at 70-9. Heide captured the girls’ triple jump title (28-10).
Johnson took second in the girls’ long jump, at 14 feet, and in the 100 with a time of 14.27.
In the boys’ 100, Jenkins finished in 12.50 to take second, and Ryder Beauclair was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles (48.58). Tyler Deering had a personal-best triple jump of 36-8 in finishing fourth.
Junior high competitions in Beach on Friday saw Logan Osvold win the boys’ 100-meter dash and Meriah Jenkins capture first in the high jump at the seventh-grade level.
Osvold was also second in a junior high meet May 2 in Velva with an even better time of 13.17.
Divide County travels to Watford City on Thursday, Minot on Saturday and Velva on Monday.
