Makenzie Olson’s second hat trick in two days helped Crosby’s 19U girls hockey team defeat the Walsh County Warriors, 9-1 at Park River on Saturday.
Olson opened the scoring early in the first period, then scored twice in a two-minute span in the second. She had 13 points on the Comets’ 17 goals in the two-game weekend road trip.
Ashlyn Bailey also notched a hat trick. She and Kyrian Johnson scored within 37 seconds of each other in the first period to make it 3-0. Two more Bailey goals came in the third period.
Autumn Ballew scored her first goal of the game 44 seconds after Olson’s third goal to make it 6-0. She made it 7-1 with 24 seconds remaining in the second period.
Bailey, Samantha DeJardine, Addy Eriksmoen and MaKenzie Knudson each notched an assist in addition to Olson’s two.
Comets defeat Blades
The Comets scored five unanswered goals in the first and second periods to defeat the Langdon Blades 8-2 at Langdon.
Olson scored six goals and assisted on the other two. Eriksmoen and Autumn Ballew each had a goal, and DeJardine and Zada Ballew each had an assist.
Olson scored three goals in the first period for a 3-0 Comets lead. She set up Autumn Ballew for her goal and scored again to make it 5-0.
Eriksmoen scored 45 seconds into the third period, and Olson capped the scoring at 3:49 and 11:38.
Knudson made 11 saves Friday and seven saves Saturday.
The Comets host the Watford City Oilers on Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and visit the Williston Cougars on Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
14U falls to Bottineau
Bottineau secured a 5-0 victory over Crosby in 14U girls action Saturday.
Goalie Zada Ballew performed strongly, allowing one goal through two periods despite the Stars outshooting the Comets 26-4 in that span and 39-8 in the game. Bottineau added four more goals in the third.
“This easily could have gotten into double-digits without her performance,” Gillen said.
The Comets will take the next two weekends away from game action before hosting two games Jan. 9, at 1:30 p.m. vs. Richland and 5 p.m. vs. Watford City, and welcoming Minot on Jan. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
