Divide County’s track and field teams wrapped up their first weekend of competition at an invitational in Hazen on Saturday.
“We got off to a good start at Hazen on Saturday,” head coach Nate Nelson said. “We faced some very good competition from many teams outside our normal geographic footprint that we don’t see at meets very often throughout the year. We now know our strengths and weaknesses and can move forward in practice.”
The girls’ 100-meter dash title went home with sophomore Alli McCoy, who finished with a time of 13.33 seconds.
In the 200, McCoy captured second place with a time of 28.04.
The girls’ 4x100 relay team of McCoy, McKenzie Hallgren, Emilee Johnson and Lauryn Heide captured third place with a time of 55.90.
McCoy came away with seventh place in the long jump at 15-11, followed by Johnson in eighth at 14-10.
Dejuan Jenkins competed in the boys’ long jump, taking second at a distance of 18-6.5. In the 200, Jenkins finished seventh at 25.92.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Jenkins captured sixth with a time of 50.32, followed by Ryder Beauclair in seventh at 51.04 and Tyler Deering in ninth at 52.17.
The Maroons headed to Tioga on Tuesday and also have a meet in Watford City on Friday.
“If the weather holds up for us, we will get more early-season evaluation,” Nelson said. “Many of our athletes are experimenting in new events early in the season. We are hopeful we can find some more areas of development we can pursue with our athletes.”
