Maroons score well in Tioga meet

By Jody Michael
Divide County’s track and field teams saw several athletes shine in a meet April 12 in Tioga.
Alli McCoy captured three of Divide County’s five victories on the day, including the girls’ 100-meter dash with a time of 13.50 seconds and the 200 in 28 seconds.
Maroons took four of the top five spots in the girls’ long jump, with McCoy capturing first place at 15 feet, followed by Emilee Johnson (second, 14-8.5), McKenzie Hallgren (third, 13) and Lauryn Heide (fifth, 12-8.5).
In the boys’ long jump, Dejuan Jenkins secured first place (20-1.5). Jenkins also took home a third-place finish in the 100 with a time of 12.02 and fifth in the 200 in 25.45.
The boys’ 4x100 relay team of Jenkins, Ryder Beauclair, Tyler Deering and Aidan Eriksmoen took second place at 49.58.
Beauclair took the second-place spot in the 300 hurdles, finishing with a time of 50.05. In the 110 hurdles, Deering took third with a time of 23.64.
While the Maroons also participated in a meet Thursday in Watford City, only nine of the 13 varsity members competed.
“We had a couple kids banged up,” head coach Nate Nelson said, “so we took the cautious approach and rested kids in the hopes they will be back at 100 percent sooner than later.”
Personal bests earned Thursday included Heide and Hallgren’s marks in the triple jump. Heide’s 30-7 landed her in second place, while Hallgren finished fifth at 29-1.75.
Beauclair improved his 300 hurdle time to 48.50 in finishing fourth, while Kate Sabe placed fifth in the shot put with a personal-best 27-4.75.
The Maroons head to Tioga for a junior varsity and junior high meet Thursday and a varsity meet Friday.
