Two local high school graduates have recently signed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Taylor Elsbernd of Crosby has signed to join the men’s golf team at Dickinson State University, and Lakin Peterson of Columbus has signed to play basketball at Williston State College.
Elsbernd concluded his Divide County golf career last month by advancing to his first state golf meet, where he finished 32nd out of 130 golfers.
“Taylor is a competitor,” DSU head coach Thadd O’Donnell said. “Watching him at the state meet, you could see that he carries himself well. He was a good hockey and football player, which adds an element of grit to his golf game.”
Peterson, a forward on the Burke County Titans girls basketball team, was a three-time all-district selection who surpassed 1,200 points and 1,000 rebounds in her high school career.
WSC head coach Luanne Axelson said Peterson will stand out on the Tetons as one of the team’s “tough players that can rebound and score against anybody.”
