Kade Guenther capped a four-touchdown first half with a 70-yard kickoff return to open the second half and carry the MonDak Thunder football team to the Montana state six-man semifinals with a 57-28 victory over the Geraldine-Highwood Rivals on Saturday afternoon.
The Thunder will face the Bridger Scouts in Grenora on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT. Bridger defeated MonDak 32-20 in the first week of the season for the Thunder’s only loss so far.
Guenther scored on a 35-yard interception return, a 24-yard pass from Daulton Holecek, a 1-yard pass from Jeremiah Paine and an 18-yard run.
Paine had three other TD passes in the game: 14-yarders to Holecek and Brian Field and a 28-yarder to Andrew Field.
The MonDak volleyball team took third place in the East divisional tournament last week, ending the season with a loss to Circle, 25-19, 27-25, 25-19.
Fallon Garman and Joey Pittenger led the Thunder in blocks with four each. Garman added 11 kills and an ace. Other statistical leaders were Bailey Peterson (30 assists) and Savannah Dean (16 digs).
