Divide County routs Ray 58-18

By Jody Michael
Dejuan Jenkins rushed for a game-high 117 yards and a touchdown Friday, helping the Divide County football team to a 58-18 rout of host Ray under rainy conditions.
"It was kind of a sloppy game, but it always feels good to beat Ray," DC offensive coach Bob Brown said. "We were fortunate to hit some big plays on the ground and in the air."
Jenkins threw two additional touchdowns, both to Tyler Deering, and backup quarterback Isaac Ellingson threw one of his own to Riley Lund.
Ellingson and Jenkins also each intercepted one of Ray quarterback Garrett Hodenfield’s throws, and the defense grabbed three fumbles.
DC (4-2, 4-1 Region 6) had amassed 449 yards of total offense. Taylor Landsverk rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on five carries, Aidan Eriksmoen finished with 49 and two scores on five attempts and Joran Oien scored from 20 yards out as the Maroons finished with 298 yards on the ground.
Ray (0-6, 0-5) was no match for a talented bunch that began the season with expectations of a 15th straight playoff appearance.
“They’ve got kind of a scheme that you don’t see a lot,” Ray head coach Steve Perdue said. “They snap the ball to different guys, and we weren’t able to comprehend well enough.”
Hodenfield and Derek Hale teamed on an 18-yard pass, an immediate response to DC starting the game with Aidan Eriksmoen scoring on a 40-yard run on the Maroons’ third play from scrimmage for a quick 8-0 lead.
Eriksmoen, Landsverk and Jenkins combined to give DC three touchdown runs in the game’s first four minutes.
Hayden Parizek’s 12-yard TD reception put Ray within eight points before Eriksmoen scored once and Deering twice in the second quarter to put the Maroons up 44-12.
Hodenfield had little success throwing the ball for Ray after connecting on the two TD plays to begin the game. The junior finished 5 of 15 for 100 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
“Defensively we played much better than the previous week,” DC defensive coach Nate Nelson said. “We still have some mental errors and slight coverage breakdowns that we need to correct.”
The Maroons did struggle to contain running back Waylen Hale, who finished with 110 yards on 22 carries.
The Maroons return to Crosby for their home finale Friday against Tioga.
“Tioga has a very good running game and will provide some challenges for us,” Nelson said.
