DC boys pull away

By Jody Michael
The Divide County boys’ basketball team snapped its six-game losing streak by running away with a 68-51 win over Trenton on Saturday evening.
The win lifted the Maroons to 2-15 overall on the year heading into Feb. 16 and 18 road matchups against Ray and Powers Lake, both at 7:15 p.m.
“All the seniors on senior night went out and they got it done,” Divide County head coach Rodney Johnson said. “I thought they played very well.”
Jake Bird finished with 20 points. Keaton Oien and Ryder Beauclair were the other players to reach double digits in scoring at 14 and 12 points, respectively. Beauclair had seven rebounds to lead DC.
The Tigers led for most of the first quarter, but Divide County would hold Trenton scoreless for the first 4:29 of the second quarter, reel off an 8-0 run and take a 29-19 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Trenton would close the gap from 20 to single digits late in the third quarter, but Bird, Oien and Beauclair kicked off a 21-9 run as the Maroons pulled away.
1st-place Kenmare downs DC
First-place Kenmare delivered a strong performance to down Divide County on Friday evening, 77-43. Bird led the Maroons with nine points, while Seth Haugland delivered eight.
Kenmare entered the locker room ahead just 30-24 but pushed their lead to 34.
“We were playing really well the first half,” Johnson said. “And then, foul trouble. I had to keep two starters on the bench.”
Maroons drop road contest
Despite a team-high 18 points from Bird, Divide County fell to Burke County 62-47 Thursday.
Tyler Deering added 16 points;  Haugland added six.
