Tyler Deering recorded the only single Thursday evening for the Crosby Cubs as they were one-hit by the Garrison Titans in a 7-0 loss at Garrison.
Despite just the one hit for the Cubs, six different players reached base in the game. Crosby left five runners on base in the loss, the team’s sixth.
Deering finished 1-for-2 with a fielder’s choice as he recorded his second hit of the season. Deering singled with one out in the top of the fifth inning to break up Garrison’s no-hitter.
Left-handed starter Reid Groninger pitched seven innings for the Titans with 10 strikeouts for the victory.
“We faced a left-hander for the first time this year,” Crosby coach Monte Ellingson said. “We didn’t do well.”
Evan Eriksmoen pitched six innings for the Cubs, making his second start of the season, with his record falling to 0-2 with the loss. Eriksmoen allowed seven runs on nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts in the game.
Colin O’Grady finished the game 2-for-3 with two singles and two runs scored while Nash Wimer finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs for the Titans. Garrison scored single runs in the second and third innings before adding a pair in the fourth and three in the sixth.
Cubs defeated by Surrey
Crosby was defeated in its June 9 game versus Surrey, 16-5. The Cubs totaled five runs on two hits, which came from Jaime Boen and Evan Eriksmoen.
On the mound, Crosby starter Aidan Eriksmoen (0-1) threw four innings, allowing six earned runs.
Surrey benefited from six Crosby errors and three walks.
“Aidan threw strikes,” Ellingson said. “The defense was poor, especially the outfield. Numerous fly balls were not caught.”
After two and a half innings, Crosby trailed 8-5 before the Blue Sox scored six runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Crosby faces Kidder County on Thursday at Surrey. First pitch is 4 p.m. The Cubs will return to Crosby for a game against Renville County, scheduled for 5 p.m. next Tuesday at Vournas Field.
