Dollars for Scholars auction raises nearly $30,000

By Sydney Caraballo
The annual Dollars for Scholars Dinner and Auction raised $28,599 in donations Oct. 22.
“I am very pleased with the outcome,” said board member Peg Nygaard.
Debbie Axtman, an outgoing board member, was honored during the dinner and presented with an award as a State Chapter Hero, an honor selected by the North Dakota Dollars for Scholars board for Axtman’s work on behalf of the local chapter and her number of years of service as chapter treasurer. Other outgoing board members honored at the auction included Patty Lund and Jim Simonson. New board members named were Tonia Eriksmoen, Becky Knudson and Patti Windfaldet. Web-masters who were also thanked for their service included Alexa Kruger and Leigh Nygaard.
Nygaard noted that the “Head for Higher Education” toilet fundraiser brought in $1,350 in donations.
From plane rides to NFL Vikings toolboxes to coconut pies, bidding was fast and furious once the auction began. A wagon sold for $750, and 18 rounds of lefse sold for more than $400. Auctioneers Butch and Drew Haugland kept bidders entertained and also bid against each other on a vintage and original 7UP sign.
At the end of the evening, the drawing was held for the week at a time-share sponsored by Clyde and Pat Thurston. Carol Lampert of Crosby won the trip with the destination of her choice.
